Norwegian Log: Building with nature’s best

norlog

Client: Norwegian Log Buildings for Designation (2005-2009)

Details: The Norwegian Log website showcases the log buildings of various kinds they offer with lots of supporting material and case studies. The site is a CMS with is managed for the client as they are far too busy looking after the dozens of filtered prospects that contact them through the site every month (each one potentially a six figure sale).

I worked with the client to produce the site architecture and wireframes, and then oversaw the design and developed the site myself.

Chestnut Tree House Hospice: Chestnut’s Challenge

chestnutschallenge

Client: Chestnut Tree House for Designation (2009)

Details: Designation had been working with St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House Hospices for a number of years running their main websites. The team at Chestnut Tree House came up with a new campaign idea to help raise much needed funds with the help of children either in or connected to the hospice. These Challengers have set themselves the task of promoting the work of the hospice and they are an example to us all. The supporting website (www.chestnutschallenge.org.uk) was put together to help the hospice gain new supporters willing to take the challenge and to allow existing supporters to leave messages of support for the children. I worked for the marketing team at Chestnut Tree House to produce, design and build this site and the supporting campaign site (Take The Challenge, Pass It On).

“John always replies promptly to requests, is good at solving problems and coming up with solutions. He explains things clearly and completes work on time and within budget – a pleasure to work with!”
Janet Parsons, Communications Manager, St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House Hospices

Scienceworks: A woman of outstanding achievement

scienceworks

Client: Averil Macdonald for Designation (2007-2009)

Details: Averil has been a client of Designation for a number of years usually working as a project manager on a education based project either in print or online. She needed a site to showcase her work over the years and help promote the fact that she ‘Woman of Outstanding Achievement 2007′. I worked as consultant and developer on this website which is designed to reflect her personality and to allow individual sections to be promoted seperately dependant on the audience she is talking to.

University of Reading: Reaching out to the teenagers!

science_outreach

Client: University of Reading for Designation (2009)

Details: We all know that teenagers reallllly need a damn good educating. As such when approached by the University of Reading to produce their Science Outreach website aimed at supporting GCSE students with their revision it seemed like a good opportunity to get involved in moulding the minds of the next generation.

The site is database driven to allow content to be updated and added to in support of syllabus changes and boasts functionality to allow students to select and save/print free revision cards on areas they feel they need to swot up on. So hopefully the site will prove a valuable resource to not only students taking science GCSE’s soon, but also those wanting to know more about science and the careers it has to offer before choosing selecting their GCSE subjects.

Cubeez: They cubee-doobee-did-it

cubeez

Client: Cubeez for Designation (2001-2002)

Details: Cubeez is a kids TV show still seen occasionally in the UK (it used to be on GMTV) and elsewhere worldwide. When the first series launched in 2001 the production team wanted a state-of-the-art interactive website to support the show and continue the excitement of the characters into the online world. I worked as project manager, overseeing an 8 person team on this £130K project. Utilising SQL Server (with all text and audio coming out of the database to enable multiple languages), ASP and Flash (with Generator at the time) it was a cutting-edge site and introduced all sorts of user interactivity that wouldn’t become mainstream over the years that followed (and some that still haven’t).

Clients are normally delighted for me to promote their project in my portfolio, if however you are a client that would prefer your project was not promoted here please let me know and I'll remove it. Thanks.
